Jones: Governor’s Budget Proposal Not Right for PA
February 4, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tom Jones (R-Lancaster/Lebanon) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget address:
“Now is not the time for state government to be spending more of Pennsylvanians’ hard-earned money. Unfortunately, that is the plan the Legislature was presented with by the governor during his address today.
“The $12 billion Rainy Day Fund and the budget surplus will very shortly run dry due to overspending imposed by the Shapiro administration. Once depleted, policymakers will have the hard question of cutting government services or raising taxes on hard-working Pennsylvanians. The logical approach would be to stop the overspending now and immediately begin to put Pennsylvania back on a responsible fiscal track.
“We must work to further accelerate the reduction of the Corporate Net Income Tax to attract more businesses to our great state. Additionally, we should transform our energy policy and open the tap to the natural gas reserves that are right here in our state. Doing so is a pathway to fiscal responsibility, would provide added revenue to the state and much-needed relief to Pennsylvania consumers.
“In the coming weeks and months, I, as well as fellow House Republicans, will work toward creating a better budget that respects taxpayers while funding core government services.”
